I met Madam Mayor this week. It was my second meeting with her in as many months. She remembered my name, what I did, where I was from and what I was doing at the end of November. She also rubbed her chin and said, “The old beard is coming along well, isn’t it?!”
“Well, I never!” I spluttered and promptly blushed a deep crimson. I recalled dropping a pencil under the desk sometime last year and bent to look for it. I managed to stand on my shoelace and collapse into an office chair which I grabbed for support. It obliged by running off to stand against the nearest wall. In the stunned silence that followed Madam Mayor, with composure enough for the both of us, asked, “So what are you working on now?”
Ah, familiar territory. I’ll impress her with GIS speak and confound her with arcane team acronyms. Well, in her spare time she works for an IT company developing software solutions and GIS is “old school”.
It was an agonising three minutes but I managed to make the most of the opportunity and she’ll definitely remember me next.
