Last weekend in Newtyle there was blue sky, warm sunshine and pristine white sparkly snow with a nice icy crust that was just perfect for sledging and skiing.
I have created a new website for the village of Newtyle – www.newtylevillage.org.uk – that will hopefully become a source of information about the village. I hope to include upcoming events, descriptions of the attractions and activities in the area, and some of the history. I have established links with some of the neighbouring villages and community associations (Auchterhouse and Eassie, Nevay and Kirkinch) and hope to get connected to some of the others in the area. I hope to get involved with the Community Council and use the site as another way of disseminating information.
I set up the website after I had been trying to search for information about the area when we were thinking of moving here. Some of the generic “search for a village” websites literally had one line on Newtyle – a small village in Angus, Scotland. Well, there is a lot more to it than that. Quite apart from Scotland’s best butcher there are some fantastic walks, a great school, a football team at the top of the log, and more – go check the website and come and visit.
We’ve moved into our new house and we are in the process of updating contat details, change account information and waiting for a telephone and broadband internet connection. While there are plenty of other things to be getting on with, you realise how dependent on instant communication you become when the only mean of communcation is putting pen to paper or actually going to see the person you wish to talk to.
I had a look at the cell network coverage for Newtyle and it appears to sit right in the eye of the 2G/3G storm. There is zero coverage anywhere within the bounds of our property and we are lucky if we get two bars of signal outside the front gate. The answer does appear to be blowing in the wind sometimes as the signal can vary wildly.
Here are some maps from the major providers:
The Family McDonald now have a new house. We picked up the keys on Wednesday and popped in that afternoon to have a look. So much space – all ours – to clean and look after, to fill with family and friends. You can have a look at some of the first pictures in the gallery.
